Getting Around Port Washington, New York

The Long Island Rail Road that was built at the end of the 19th century is the easiest mode of transportation located in the center of town. The commute from Port Washington to Penn Station is approximately 30 minutes. Port Washington is close to Northern Blvd, LIE, and Northern Parkway making it very accessible by car to travel anywhere.

Recently, a Stop n Shop opened up in the Soundview Marketplace on Shore Road. There are close to 100 restaurants to choose from in Port alone, not to mention all the places in neighboring areas to choose from.

Also found on Main Street is Landmark on Main Street, a local, state and national landmark. Landmark on Main Street is the home of the Jeanne Rimsky Theatre—a 425-seat theatre that hosts many sold out Broadway performances, music concerts and dance performances—the Port Washington Youth Council's Teen Center, the Port Washington Parent Resource Center, the Doctors' Gymnasium, and the Port Washington Children's Center.

Parks and Recreation

Plenty of recreational options abound near Port Washington. Bar Beach Park located in North Hempstead includes a beach for fishing, boating and swimming, and hosts summer concerts along with other special events throughout the year. Also located in North Hempstead is Manorhaven Beach Park. This park also includes a beach for water recreational activities, tennis, basketball and handball courts, and picnic areas. Town Dock in North Hempstead has the largest anchorage for boats along the North Shore—an excellent locale for fishing and enjoying the sunset. Sands Point Preserves features six natural trails (some trails run along the shoreline) and 216 acres waiting to be discovered by curious nature enthusiasts.
